Canada-based Pakistani cleric leads an estimated 7,000 protesters from Lahore to Islamabad to demand electoral reforms.
Allama Dr Tahirul Qadri, Cheif of Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) began the long March a day earlier urging masses across the country to join him in the noble cause.
The caravan, comprising all sorts of vehicles including cars
, buses and motorcycles, began its journey from Model Town, Lahore and reached Gujrat last night after after moving through Faisal Town, Kenal road, Railway Station, Minar-e-Pakistan, Shahdarra and Muridke.
Strict security arrangements were put in place by the administration with thousands of security personnel stationed along the long-march’s route.
Emergency alert has also been issued at all the government hospitals where holidays of the staff have also been cancelled to deal with any eventuality.
“It is a march for democracy, it is a march against looters and plunderers ruling in Islamabad and Lahore, it is a march against the evil forces, it is a march against those exploiting poor people, it is a march against the oppressors, the corrupts and the persecutors of the weak and poor Insh`Allah be wiped out forever,” said Qadri prior to departing for the march.
“It is a march to topple Yazeedi Empire, I declare the march as a democracy march,” it is a march for the people sobbing in Quetta with over hundred bodies, Qadri said.
It is assumed that Long-march will continue sans break.
